At this time, technology began to touch the agriculture of Bangladesh. In the beginning of the sixties, the farmers of our country started cultivating improved rice (Ufshi) with the help of mill ploughs, irrigation technology, chemical fertilizers and pesticides provided by the then government.
By cultivating modern technology and advanced varieties of rice, the farmers get many times the yield compared to before, gradually all the farmers of the country become dependent on advanced seeds and modern technology in crop cultivation.
At the beginning of modern agriculture in the country after independence, most of the inputs that the government gives to farmers in agriculture for free and subsidized to achieve self-sufficiency in food by increasing agricultural production are influential farmers, chairman, Members take.
Food security
But common farmers shy/frightened not to take these benefits. But gradually the common and marginal farmers also got used to using advanced technology of modern agriculture. Farmers continue to benefit greatly as the government provides substantial subsidies on agricultural inputs. But after several years of continued subsidy, the government reduced the subsidy in the agricultural sector, leaving the marginal farmers in a lot of trouble.
Agricultural inputs have to be bought from the market as a result of which the cost of production in agriculture increases and the profit decreases comparatively. Current agriculture is completely dependent on technology and chemicals. Starting from seeds of improved varieties, planting of rice seedlings, weeding, harvesting, threshing and processing, everything is under the control of technology and chemicals.
The use of modern technology in agriculture is increasing day by day. As a result, despite the increase in diverse food production and food security in the country, safe food remains beyond the reach of consumers. Through various media we know that the country is self-sufficient in food today.
Not only that, Bangladesh ranks 1-5 in the world in the production of rice, fish, mangoes and livestock. The country has also made considerable progress in other food sectors. Although the country is self-sufficient in food, we are still far behind other countries in the world in terms of safe food. Modern agriculture can also be said to be a major sector of profit making.
Chemical fertilizer
As the current agro farming is very profitable, many investors in the country are investing more in this field.
In the hope of more profit, they use chemical fertilizers, poisons, hormones, Applying vitamins. As a result, even if the food supply increases, the food produced is no longer safe. The soil of Bangladesh is suitable for all kinds of fruit cultivation. Almost every kind of fruit grows in our soil except the apple (unheard of apple cultivation).
But most of the agricultural implement dealers in our country have no training in using the implements and most of the farmers are illiterate and less educated, so they are not very skilled in using the implements (chemicals) and technologies in agriculture. Many of them think that if more fertilizers, poisons and hormones are used, they will get more yield.
And if it is possible to do this, food security and safe food will be ensured for all the people of the country through modern technology based agriculture.
Consumer society will be saved, environment and neighborhood will be protected and our farmers will benefit. Modern technology in agriculture will win.
